Last read of 2014. I said i wanna compile my vivid memories of 2014 into one post, so since it's the last, pardon me if it's going to be really lengthy.
2014 was an incredible year.
There's just so many things i am grateful and thankful for.
First and foremost, the luxury and privilege to travel.
Our youth is limited and they always say travel at the prime age of your life. Twenty years from now i will be more disappointed by the things i didn't do than by the ones i did do. So "Throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
1st) Vietnam, Feb 2014
This year during the chinese lunar new year i get to travel with my paternal cousins to a country that totally changed my impression right after the trip.
I remember how we are left with zero internet connection for two days, and you could literally see none of us hogging on our phones. That two days away from the buzzling city, and on a ferry wholly to ourselves. It was a good two days at Halong Bay, admiring the serenity and picturesque views around us. It was peaceful and relaxing. For the first time i felt i was disconnected from reality, and trust me that feeling was unbelievable. Company wise was without a single trace of doubt even more amazing. They say never go on trips with anyone you do not love, but thankful enough i love all of them.
2nd) United Kingdom, April 2014
If you have already been reading since the start of the year then none should be unfamiliar about this trip.
I remember clearly my air tickets for this trip was booked on the first day of 2014. And i was so stoked!
Initially i was procrastinating to plan this trip because there were so many concerns. Firstly was accommodation, then expenses, and i was just too lazy? I mean out of ten people, how many would actually really plan a trip to a country 6000 miles away from home? And in addition it's a trip that you are embarking alone.
Not only till a random day when 2013 was coming to an end, i decided to grab my laptop and do all the necessary research and itinerary plannings. Because it struck me that i want to travel when i'm in the most beautiful age of my life, 18. I want a youth with entirely no regrets. So i did it!!!
Travelling to 7 different cities isn't easy, be it Edinburgh, York, Bristol, Cardiff, Bath, Brighton, or London, i love them all.
The UK is a beautiful country, and i'll never forget how i dirtied my Dr Marten boots just to get up to Arthurs Seat and have a picnic, or how i test the limit of my stomach by stuffing myself with yummy afternoon tea at Betty's Cafe Tearoom, or how i cycled almost the whole island of Cardiff and found beautiful corners of mother nature, or caught a sunset at London's Giant Ferris Wheel (London's Eye), or even shopped till my jaw dropped at Oxford Street in London, or even visited all the famous food markets in the different cities, or even hiding in the palace because it was freezing 6 degrees outside, and even saw Dandelion my favourite flower. There's just so much more memories to this wonderful trip, and i'm glad i made up my mind to fly all the way there for a getaway with one of my friend who's currently studying there, Xuan.
This trip was an absolute eye-opener. The only regrets i had was not spending another week more to take a train down Europe. I could have explored more, but i'm already blessed with this 18 days in the UK. I know i will always remember this trip for life.
3rd) Penang, July 2014
This trip was a pure impromptu decision. All because of our love for durians.
Amidst the stressful workload, school projects, and many more, i decided to tag along on this Penang trip with my parents and several of my relatives. 3 days getaway was enough to recharge me for school.
Penang have beautiful wall arts, what they call the murals. And LOTS of delicious food and variety of cuisines. Needless to say durians. It was a heaven on earth.
It was only 12 months, but i am already granted the blessing to travel to 3 different countries. And it should be obvious the ones i need to thank are my parents.
Having a supportive parents who are always nodding at your decisions, even if it's bad or good, you know they want you to learn and see the world yourself. But you also know at the end of the day, they will always have your back. My parents are that. My life is made much more blessed, much better thanks to you two, I love you pa ma.
Next thing i am grateful for in 2014 is definitely the people.
Through this year i learnt that everything is just about the mindset and perspective. If you think this matter is sad it's sad, if you think it's happy it's happy. Sometimes when you think that the whole world is crumbling down on you, just bear in mind that someone else has its worst, and no matter how severe things are going for you, it will all pass.
Your life is yours to control, it's up to you to live it grasping frantically for everyone's attention or being approved/liked by everyone, or choosing to feel blessed for the fact that you have a handful who understands you more than the outside people. People in life should be what we should be thankful for. For it's them who made life more interesting and worth to live, and it's them who made you learn alot more. I'm thankful for the same few who never left my life ever since they entered, and not only that, they made me feel i am never alone. They are also the exact few who still decided to love me despite how much I've changed during the past year.
I have had my worst towards the end of this year, and i honestly thought things so negatively that it irks me now when i recall back. But now that things have tide down, i know all the bads are just lessons for us to learn. The past is build to contribute to the future 'us'. So stop sitting around and hoping for 2015 to be a good year. Take life a day at a time. Bad days are inevitable and you can't hope for a whole year to be picture perfect. "Don't hope for a better year, hope for a better you."
It's the little details that are vital. And there are some little blessings that took place in 2014.
1. I got the chance to be reunited with Olivia.
Hardly get to spend time with her having to be separated by a thousand miles. So i was thankful this year i got to see her twice, and not only once in a year or many years (like in the past).
2. My brother is back for good.
For almost 5 years my brother isn't with me as he was studying abroad. But i'm glad this year he is back for good and never going elsewhere.
3. My legal age.
Legal somehow leads to clubbing. As often as i enjoy or frequent zouk, i do admit shit happens when you are under the influence of alcohol. But everything happens for a reason, i know they happened to put up a stronger me.
4. A really special one.
All in my life i thought was living it to fullest, or enjoy it while i can. And most guys who walked into my life, made me fell in love with them, but left almost for the same reason. But for the first time i felt someone is sent by God to tell me i'm beautiful in my way, and there is really someone out there who loves me truly for who i am. There's so many things i have done that broke your heart, or nasty words that i blurt out. And also so many instances i was contradicting and even i can't figure myself out......how did you manage to still stay? Won't you feel tired? Won't you feel worthless? How did you got so stubborn and kept on working things out. How did you actually prove to me that i am wrong about you?
I know i am not the type of girl who can promise or guarantee you anything. But no matter what the future holds, i just wanna say i am thankful right now, this time of my life, i have you by me. I love you
Leave the very best for the last. Through this year, I am most thankful and grateful for you my halfway bitch, soulmate, best friend.
I remember for uncountable times whenever i'm crying, all i murmur is "I need WanTing." You became the first one who will pop into my mind whenever i desperately need someone. I remembered how i push everyone away when i was crying in public, including you, but you kept on hugging me tightly, and reassuring me you're WanTing. I remembered how silly and stubborn i was to kept dwelling on the negativism, and no words could help me out, but only yours did. I remembered how you wiped my tears for numerous times telling me it hurts you as much. I remembered how i always tell you something i feel and all you said is "I can already see it." I remembered how the others just couldn't get what i am trying to convey, and with your nod, your look, your "I understand", i knew instantly you really understand.
You have been there for me EVERY single time i feel the world is crumbling down on me. You said i taught you that there're still people out there worth trusting, and there're still people who genuinely care. But i felt like you taught me more than i did. You are an all-rounder friend. I need not fret if you're busy, i need not fret if you feel irritated, i need not fret if you're speechless. Because whenever i reach out my phone to contact you, you're always going to listen, always being ready to scold me, always being ready to offer advice, always being ready to just hail a cab and show up right in front of me. You could do so much for me, and you're always willing to give it all for me.
All the time i tried to explain to people who don't understand, and you're the one who always knew instantly what i am trying to convey. Even when we bitch and gossip, we always get the meaning we are trying to put across even when we barely said anything. You understand me at your fingertips even when i do not need to speak. You read me like a book and i read you like one too. And whenever i feel so blessed, i get the recognition you feel the same too. We always know in heart how blessed we are with one another.
A soulmate is a person with whom you have an immediate connection the moment you met, a connection so strong that you are drawn to them in a way you have never experienced before. "You are also all that much aware of the beauty in life, because you have been given a great gift and will always be thankful."
Finding my soulmate is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have never felt this kind of love and understanding. We connect in so many ways, it astounds me. Let's continue learning and discovering more on our life journey. I know there's more we both can teach one another. I love you my halfway bitch.

^ Need i still say "thank you" to the 11 of you? You guys sum up almost all my memories in Mayflower, and MF times was undeniable my best phase of life. It's amazing how all of us grew up in different environments, and we have different/same upbringings, but we can still blend through our curves and imperfections. It's like we are all made for one another. I love how nobody else can make me laugh louder and happier than all of you. And i just can't wait for the next time all 12 of us are able to gather together. But good things are definitely worth the wait!
And to the special 4 girls, thank you for standing throughout all my bad times this year, listening to my woes and story tellings. And this year was the year i opened up even more to you girls, and it surprises me how in the past i always tell myself there are some things i can never do with you girls, but now it seems like EVERYTHING can be done and said. There's nothing i need to hide anymore. Extremely thankful for the 4 of you xx.
^ Nothing beats having a home and a family. Being blessed with supportive and understanding parents, and who's always there to give us all sorts of advice. In addition having a sister and brother who dotes on you in their way even when i'm 18 now. Being the youngest is the luckiest, or rather having born in the Yap family is the luckiest of the luckiest :')
My family is also the one who taught me the true warmth of a complete family. I guess it's in the genes that i treasure family ties the most because my cousins are like my extended siblings, i can never live without them.
^ These 3 girls are the reason why i always say entering into NYP is a blessing in disguise. Many said you won't earn true friends in your polytechnic life, but they proved this sentence otherwise. Love how i can be silly, childish, happy, emotional, and all sorts with you girls. I guessed through this year we got a whole lot closer because of all the happenings and bullshits we individually go through, and coincidentally or luckily, we were all beside one another. Thank you you 3 pretty girls xx.
^ This girl is a twist in my ordinary friendships. I think in a year i only get to see her thrice? But everytime we meet nothing seems to have changed, and we can always pick up from where we stopped. Such friendships are what they say it's not about being inseparable, it's about being separated but nothing changes.
^ Olivia will never be able to see this but baby girl this is my favourite site so it should contain you too. You little witty cheekiest rascal, no matter what you do, you always send a smile to my face. You taught me how to be patient, how to love someone unconditionally. And i think it's fate that brought us alot closer, you have so many Aunts/Uncles, but everyone realised that it's only me you accepted, and only me you remember even after being separated for a year. I promise to love you till eternity ends my dearest girl. Be happy and healthy in Australia, Yiyi will visit you very soon ;)
